It's The Little Things

I know what I am getting my wife, but I have no idea what to get my mom this year for Mother's Day this year.  My brothers and I usually go in together and get her a day at the spa, but I'm not sure I want to get her the same thing this year.  Guess I'll figure it out at the last minute like I always do.

Woman's Day has a few great stories from young adult women telling stories about how they remember their moms when they were young. The last one called One Part Flour, Two Parts Love reminded me about my mom.  She was a great cook and always used to let us boys help. It's amazing to me how the simple activities are the most memorable.  You can check out the rest of the stories in the May issue of Women's Day starting on page 20.

Live For Today And Smile!

I saw a bumper sticker on Wednesday that said...Yesterday was history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift...that's why it's called "The Present".

I've seen this quote before, but that day it made me smile.  It was a great reminder that no matter how crazy things look, especially now...if we just take a minute or two to pay attention to the fact that we are alive at that very moment,  it instantly pushes personal and world events to take a backseat in our mind. And that the opportunity to change it to our liking is right now.

I'm amazed at how our pets always seem to be living in the present. Dogs especially...they are so happy to see us when we come home and appear to be generally happy most all of the time. Cats can be more aloof, but it's probably because they have better memories than dogs. The great thing is both cats and dogs enjoy our company almost every day.

We humans are crazy in how we project personalities on to our pets, but that's probably half the fun of having one.  You may have already seen this before, but it is somewhat entertaining if you are in need of a smile.  If you've never checked it out before, stop by icanhascheezburger.com for some really funny pictures of real cats with various personality thought bubbles. You can find the dog version here - ihasahotdog.com

We have a full line of great pet magazines. I tend to like Modern Dog magazine, but there are many others to choose from. Check out our Animals and Pets Category here.

Bringing Back The 1980's

LadiesHomeJournal2009I'm in the middle of a crisis. Since my wife was a class officer in high school she's in the midst of planning their 20 year reunion.  Facebook has made things a lot easier, but the drama of getting volunteers and donations has been a ride to say the least.  My wife seems to think that I am the creative part of our relationship so she asked me to come up with a theme. I told her it was the 80's how hard can that be!

This is why I laughed when I was flipping through the May 2009 copy of Ladies Home Journal.  (For this newsletter of course...I have a manly image to uphold, right?) J Anyway, the article is written by a young lady who was waxing nostalgic about how her mother made the 80's styles look good and mentions a funny detail I had forgotten. Nestle had introduced the first white chocolate candy bar during the 80's and the writer wanted to share her mother's recipe for a raspberry dessert that used white chocolate.

I'm a huge fan of raspberries so this recipe is on my list of things to do. Although, I'm not such a big fan of white chocolate so I may replace the white chocolate with dark gourmet chocolate. Either way, it sounds de-lish; you can get the recipe here.
