Energy Price Relief...How Much Longer?
If you're like me and it takes at least 30 minutes to get to and from work both ways, your mind is probably racing with options on how you can get some relief at the pump. How much longer will it be until we can turn the tables on high priced oil? Yesterday, Al Gore challenged America to become independent of oil with renewalable energy by 2018. The June 21-27 issue of The Economist has some predictions of how possible this might be. You can find part of the articles here and here on their website.

The Dark Knight Returns
Today is the day...Batman battles the Joker once again. Entertainment Weekly is claiming that the late Heath Ledger's arch villain performance is Oscar material. I've actually read this in several other magazines too. Is this Hollywood hype or are we going to be blown away? I thought it might be difficult to top Jack Nicholson, but then again there is always a chance that a talented new challenger could take over the throne.
I feel bad that Christian Bale's performance is being a bit overshadowed; I thought he did a great job in Batman Begins. He's probably okay with it though, I would see it as honoring his fallen fellow actor. Plus, there is always the next sequel for him to shine once again.
I wasn't much of a comic book reader when I was young, but I do find these movies to be quite a wild ride. Iron Man was great as well as the Spider-Man series. The old Batman movies were entertaining, but somewhat cartoonish...the new darker versions seem to tune in to the original tortured vigilante feeling from the comic books. The new Superman movies have been super weak at the box office, and the first Hulk movie struggled to win the hearts of action movie goers. Entertainment Weekly says critics are betting on The Dark Knight surpassing the current highest grossing comic book based movie Spider-Man. Only time will tell.
According to the EW article, much of this sequel's story was inspired by the storie lines in three past Batman comic books: Batman: The Long Halloween (1996), Batman: The Killing Joke (1988), and Batman: Year One (1987).
Super Simple Summer Cocktails
I got really hungry looking through the new August 2008 issue of Real Simple. They had the perfect article for people who don't have time to cook...Twenty 20-minute meals. It all look tasty and delicious, but the bonus is, prep is a chinch.
It is summer so they didn't leave out the cocktails. I've never made a margarita with beer before, but apparently mixing Corona, limeade and tequila makes bubbly golden "Mexican Champagne."
Add 12 issues of Real Simple to your collection for $19.95, that's 63% off the cover price.
