What's Cooking Today?
One of the best magazines (in my humble opinion) is Every Day With Rachael Ray. It's always packed with great recipes, waaaaay more than most other food magazines. What I like most is the fact that almost all of her recipes are easy and have ingredients that are extremely easy to locate.
Don't get me wrong...I love gourmet food, but finding some of the ingredients can be an adventure in itself. I found a great summertime appetizer in the July 2008 issue, it's perfect for entertaining with friends. Spicy Shrimp Boats - highly recommended for parties!
We've also had Cooking With Paula Deen for a while, her recipes taste incredible, but they are not really meant for the health conscious. I saw some fried okra she was making with some celebrity football player on her show the other day that looked exquisite! This Cajun Fried Okra recipe is close, but I'm pretty sure it's not the one I saw.
What you may not know is that we also now carry two other Food Network magazines, including the flagship Food Network Magazine and now we have Sandra Lee's Semi-Homemade.
Sandra's recipes are nice because they are mostly made with pre-prepared off the shelf products from the grocery store. The bonus is most her recipes are quick and child friendly. It's a great way to teach children how to cook.
Great Recipe Alert!
Food and Wine (February 2009 issue page 62) Risotto in 4 flavors - I actually made the Milanese Risotto recipe. Great recipe!!! Arborio rice creamy spiked with saffron and full of flavor, cut the recipe in half when cooking for two people.
You'll also find variations for Fennel and Sausage, Seafood, and Wild Mushroom in Red Wine Risotto. I have yet to try making those...be forewarned, real risotto recipes like this are easy but require babysitting every few minutes while cooking.
