Running For My Life

Posted Nov 15, 2011

Running Times Magazine

My summer started off when my friend loaned me a book called Slow Burn by Stu Mittleman. Great book by the way, I used to find running pointless unless I was doing it for a sport, but I gave Stu (and a good friend of mine) a few hours of my time to convince me otherwise.

Over the summer I’ve been trail running for a few hours each Saturday morning, but this fall decided it was time to take it to the next level. So this February I am attempting my first 26.2 mile marathon in the Mercedes Marathon here in Birmingham. My first move is to read up on everything I can about preparing for this check box on my bucket list...

Now much of what I needed to get me started was in Slow Burn, but I wanted more.  I have my Polar heart rate monitor and even an Energizer headlamp for night runs, but figured I’d give a subscription to Running Times magazine a try.  However, I am looking to you for advice…for all you seasoned marathoners out there, what magazine would you recommend for a first time marathoner?

I have been reading Runners World ever since I started training for my first marathon Boston 2009 and love it. Even my wife who is not a runners reads it! Good luck on your first marathon it will change your life forever. If you want some inspiration go to my website RunningForMyExistence.com and watch my videos there or just go here to watch my first one that a friend reposted: http://youtu.be/Ja9BFx5Mhqo :
